Dendrochronology & C14 Research

Hand brushing dirt off an exposed wooden artifact at an archaeological site.

Dendrochronological research at Konya Karahöyük started with Peter I. Kuniholm during Alp's excavations. Kuniholm put the first efforts to establish a solid chronology based on trees for the 2nd and 1st millennia BCE in Anatolia, for which Konya Karahöyük has a significant importance in terms of ring-data.

Kuniholm together with Maryanne W. Newton also publishes results for some juniper samples in 2004. [see: Newton, M. W. and Kuniholm, P. I. 2004. A dendrochronological framework for the Assyrian Colony Period in Asia Minor, TUBA-AR VII: 165-176]

Starting from 2022,  the team restarted to dendrochronological work as the site yields further examples in excellent condition all of which will contribute chronological problems of the region.
